Racquet Decision

by Patrick Cooper
(USA)

I have been playing for about 4 years competitively now, and i have a wilson blx six.one.tour. I also have been using a wilson KZen. these are two completely different racquets. especially for the weights. Which racquet should i stick with to benefit me in the long run.

Answer:

Hi Patrick,

Yes both the six one tour and the Kzen are fairly different racquets... with the six one tour being 354g while the Kzen 310g.

Generally playing with a heavier racquet will force you into accelerating the racquet head more.

That way, if you ever switched back to a lighter racquet your arm would be more accustomed to swinging the racquet head quickly ... which is great.

So, if you can manage playing with a moderately heavy racquet, it can be beneficial in the long run.

However, most importantly, the racquet that will benefit you in the long term is the racquet that suits and promotes your style of play.

For example,

1) If you are a serve and volleyer, hit big flat shots, or like the "one, two combinations" (short points) then you should definitely be looking at the Wilson six one tour.

Its extra weight will help you add power to the serve and it is a great racquet for volleying as well. I tried it several times and liked the feel.

2) If you play with spin, consistency or on clay then Kzen would help you more in the long run. It would allow you to work on your consistent game and therefore be better at improving your specific style of play in the long run.

So it kind of depends on those things,

Either way, I hope I answered your question somewhere in there :)

Good luck!
