My Ground Strokes

by lee
(Bournemouth)

ahem!!!

ahem!!!

I don't know about anyone else but I seem to often have problems with the consistency of my ground strokes.

I find this is often down to timing issues. I think I am in the right place at the time but then find out I am slightly too far away from the ball or slightly too close.

This results in very inconsistent shots. Quite often, though I do say so myself I can smack a forehand perfectly down the line and it feels great.

When it doesnt work I often dont know why!! very annoying position to be in "lightbulb comes on" I know! maybe its because I havent had lessons for about 10 years. I just expect everything to work like it used to.

The other thing I have found on my groundstrokes is that, I find it hard to generate my own pace from a slow ball.
The harder my opponent hits it to me the better and strangely more consistently I can hit it back!

This suggests to me that it must be timing issues and I can get more into the rhythm of things when my shots are instinctual and not too pre-planned!

Its often the case with everything we do that once we start to think about something too much, it becomes harder. For me, Tennis is very like this.

It is such a confidence based sport. As soon as I start to miss balls, I start to miss more and more, then i revert to my slice backhand and eek, It's all over!!!

Some more thoughts on this would be great to see..

All the best, Lee
