Effortlessly Learning to Play Tennis?
If a player can trust his or her body to make the decisions instead of your mind, then learning to play tennis gains a effortless beauty. In which the body accumulates and gathers information for your matches.Unfortunately, different from kids playing tennis or learning new skills, as we become older this is one of the hardest skills to master! Because in times of pressure and anxiety our minds are terrified to simply let our body muscle memory play and nearly always try to take over by giving instructions.
What to do? The part of your mind that tells you what to do, cannot simply be got rid of. However, it can be effectively diverted!
For example, if your very tense in your arm in your
serve,
backhand
or if you constantly tell yourself what to do when practicing or in match play... ...Try re-directing the tension to your feet or
footwork.
Many players redirect this tension by simply noticing their feet, or other part of the body. Timothy Gallwey discussed this concept of letting the body play in his book "THE INNER GAME OF TENNIS" and it is a very worthwhile read. That can really help you take your game to the next level.
How about learning tennis when you don't know the how to hit the stroke? Instead of making and trying to learn the stroke, let the body learn. The body learns through observation just the same way as a child learns through observation. It is the quickest way. Observe and watch how the
famous tennis players
play their strokes and then hit some shadow strokes in-front of a mirror. Your body will feel how to hit the stroke and soon it will start repeating it in practice and then eventually in matches!
