Getting Ahead In Tennis

I have no idea if this is the right place to ask. But I guess i'll ask anyways - because I don't know where to ask.

I am 19 years old and I dedicate my life towards tennis. I have no idea how to even start to get myself "out there".

I know i'm a bit late to make a career out of tennis but I just know if I can start right away I can get myself to be the best.

I live in South Africa and really dream to take tennis further. If anyone can help me - please send me a e-mail on superzellie@yahoo.com.

Answer

Hi,

To answer the question of "how to get out there" in tennis is different for each person depending on there level and age.

I am not sure what your level is but it sounds like you are very dedicated! The best way to get yourself out there is to play the ITF tournaments and even if you do not earn a living from it, you may earn some wins, ATP points and experience that are very useful for any other area of tennis. Such as coaching!

A player that is focused on becoming professional since very young would generally...

1) Play local tournaments and build up a national ranking

2) Play the ITF junior circuit (under 18)... Hoping to win one or play in the Junior grand slams or Grade A events

3) Start playing the ITF mens events

I hope this is what you were wanting, feel free to ask again if not!
